Grandmaster Tier is great

I finally signed up for the Grandmaster Tier last week because I was tired of keeping all my campaign notes in different places. It's really helped me get everything organized. The interactive maps are super cool for showing my players where things are, and the character manager keeps all their stats straight. It was pretty easy to get started once I watched a couple of the tutorial videos. Totally worth it for running my D&D game, everything's in one spot now.

Consistent experience always

I've been using World Anvil for about two years now, mostly for novel writing and worldbuilding. I started with Sage Tier and upgraded to Master Tier last year. This latest renewal for Master Tier was just as smooth as the first time. I really appreciate how stable the platform is; I've never lost any of my content, and the features like the Manuscript Editor and Timelines are consistently reliable. It's why I keep coming back, it just works for my projects and helps me keep my lore straight. No glitches or anything annoying, which is rare these days.

Good for novel writing, slow support

I picked up the Sage Tier primarily for the Novel Writing Software and the Lore Management features. For the most part, it's a solid platform. The organization tools are really helpful for keeping track of all my plot threads and character arcs. Exporting my world was straightforward, which is a big plus for me. My only minor issue was when I had a question about setting up Custom CSS Themes; it took customer support about three days to get back to me. Not a huge deal, but a quicker response would have been appreciated. Still, good value overall for a writer.

Master Tier, solid tools

Got the Master Tier. Needed the Campaign Manager and RPG Statblocks. Works well. Set up my new world quick. Good for GMs.

Are there any limits on how many worlds you can create, even with a paid tier?

A Anna M. 2 months ago
With the paid tiers, I don't think there's a strict limit on the number of worlds. It's more about the features and storage for each world.

I'm pretty sure you can make as many as you want once you're on a paid plan. The free tier has limits, but the others are pretty open from what I remember.

Anyone know if World Anvil is good for novel writing? I'm trying to keep all my lore straight for a fantasy series.

J June G. 2 months ago
Yeah, totally! It's super robust for worldbuilding and character arcs. I use it for my current WIP and it's a lifesaver for keeping track of everything.

It's good for the lore and world itself, like tracking timelines and family trees. For the actual manuscript, I still use Scrivener mostly, but WA helps organize all the background info.

Does World Anvil own my content once I put it on their site?

R Ryan 1 month ago
Nah, they have a policy that your content stays yours. You own everything you create on the platform. It's pretty standard for these kinds of tools.

Nope, you retain full ownership of your worlds and all your stuff. You can even export it if you decide to leave, which is a nice feature.

How does World Anvil stack up against LegendKeeper? I'm trying to decide between the two for my next campaign.

C Cleo P. 2 months ago
WA is way more feature-rich, especially for GMs with all the statblock stuff and player handouts. LK is simpler, more like a wiki, which can be good if you don't need all the bells and whistles.

LegendKeeper is cleaner and maybe a bit easier to get into, but World Anvil has a steeper learning curve but lets you do SO much more, like interactive maps and timelines. Depends how deep you wanna go.

I'm thinking of getting the annual subscription. Is it true you save a good bit compared to paying monthly?

C Colin S. 1 month ago
Oh yeah, definitely. The annual plans are always significantly cheaper per month. I think it's like 20-40% savings, something like that.

B Ben Y. 1 month ago
Yeah, going yearly is the way to go. They really push you towards it with the discounts. Plus, you just pay once and forget about it for a year.

Hey, thinking about grabbing a Grandmaster sub. Any active codes floating around for that right now? Don't wanna miss a deal if there's one.

P Paula 1 month ago
I saw some influencers had codes for like 10-15% off, usually for annual plans. Worth checking YouTube or Twitch for people who review TTRPG stuff.

Sometimes they do seasonal sales, like around Black Friday. Not sure about specific Grandmaster codes right now though, usually just the general yearly billing discount.

Can I use a referral code from a friend when signing up? Where do you even put those in?

J Julia 2 months ago
You enter those during the checkout process when you're picking your plan. There's usually a little box for 'promo code' or 'referral code'.

Yep, just look for the coupon code field before you finalize your payment. Make sure it applies before you hit confirm!
